WHAT ARE FIBROMYALGIA, MYALGIC ENCEPHALOMYELITIS, CHRONIC FATIGUE?
FM, ME, CF are all chronic conditions with many patients being diagnosed and dealing with more than one. These chronic conditions affect an estimated 5% of the population including children as young as 3 years old. Whilst FM was first recognised in the 1800's ME/CF are relatively new (1939 onwards). All have been classified by other names in the past so it would be easy to see why some people think they are all very recent conditions.
These are all life changing and debilitating conditions which impact not only on the sufferers themselves but their close family also. All over body pain combined with total exhaustion which can be variable from day to day, for some one hour to the next can be very different.
With over 200+ symptoms these diseases can be misdiagnosed easily. See the full list of symptoms here
Some of the other health issues that often appear to go hand in hand with these chronic conditions are:
- Hypermobility Joint Dysfunction
- Degenerative Disc Disease
- Raynaud's Phenomenon
+ many more ....
So when we say we have FM/ME/CF they are more than likely our primary diagnosis and who really wants to hear the long list!
